This is the story of ancient time when a saint teach a little girl an attitude of giving (Daan)

As per the story a saint (Guru ji) with his Shishy was asking for Bhiksha from a family. He asked them for something, but nobody replied from the house. He again asked for the same. Suddenly a little girl came and asked the Guru ji how she can help them. Guru ji said give something(Bhiksha) to them. Little girl said sorry we are so poor, we don't have anything. So we can not give you anything. You just go ahead. Again, saint replied daughter, please don't deny you actually don't have anything. If you actually don't have anything, at least give me some sand from your garden. You can't deny for the same. The little girl quickly picked a handful of sand from the garden and put it into the bag of saint.

Saint blessed her and leave for the next destination. After some distance his Shishy asked him Guru ji why did you accept that sand. Is this the thing to take.

Guru ji replied him son this was a way of teaching a lesson to her. Today she is a child she doesn't know anything. If we came back with empty hand from her house, she learns to say no or deny. When she will be young she will not give any Daan to anybody.

Today she gave a handful of sand, she learned the lesson of giving or sharing things (Daan). When she becomes young she will have that feeling. She can give flowers, fruits, money, clothes or other things in Daan.

Summary

Through this story we learned that we need to make our children habitual from their childhood to help to others. They will learn it in their childhood only. If you'll inspire them for some noble works in their childhood, then they will become good human beings in their lives.
Whenever you are going to give(Daan) anything, just do it through your children.
